Facing the World

Jonathan is a medical volunteer with the charity Facing the World. Founded in 2002, Facing the World aims to give children from developing countries access to life changing craniofacial surgery. The charity has set up links to the surgical centre at Da Nang hospital, Vietnam as well as two hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam to support treatment for the large number of craniofacial deformities children there are born with. The charities’ main focus is to create sustainable solutions by training local surgical teams, providing multidisciplinary surgical treatment and donating necessary equipment. Sometimes the work also involves bringing children and their parents to the UK for treatment.

Jonathan has helped plan and operate on Facing the World cases in the UK and has taken part in medical missions to Vietnam since he became a consultant. He has contributed to the introduction of orthognathic planning and surgery to the Da Nang hospital and supports its development as one of the few units in Vietnam offering this technique.

In the meantime, Jonathan embraces his midlife crisis by doing Triathlons in aid of Facing the World.
